Prof. Nieves R. Confesor - Better, Stronger and at Peace
Prof. Nieves R. Confesor is one of the most accomplished women in the country. She is Faculty Member and Associate Dean of the Center of Development Management of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), Chairperson of the Philippine Government Panel Negotiating with the Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front-New People’s Army (CPP-NDF-NPA), and enjoys the distinction of being the first Asian woman to head the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) Governing Body, and being the first woman to be the country’s Labor Secretary. Yet, not only is she able to handle the most complex of matters deftly, but she does so with a feisty, even fierce disposition; and not even a bout with cancer could slow her down.
Erlinda Tagle - Palliative Care
In January 2008, 60-year-old Erlinda Tagle was diagnosed with breast cancer and sought treatment at The Medical City (TMC) Cancer Center’s Breast Clinic. She had a mastectomy on her left breast the following month, but the cancer recurred unexpectedly in the same breast soon after. Chemotherapy was then introduced, but the process was halted after four cycles when it was not found to be effective. It turned out that Erlinda had a rare case of triple-negative breast cancer, found only in nine out of 100 patients.

Can a 71-year-old man survive three major operations within a period of six months? This was the nagging question in the mind of Atty. Eduardo G. Makalintal when he and his doctor were discussing details of his second operation. His doctor happened to be urologic oncologist Dr. Jason L. Letran. He was diagnosed with renal tumor in both of his kidneys in September 2010.
Dr. Batao- A Special Birthday Wish Granted
Due to her liver’s deteriorating condition, Dr. Amytis De Dios Batao celebrated her 61st birthday last July 22 in a hospital bed. She silently wished for a brand new life as she blew the candles on her birthday cake. Four days later, her wish was granted. On July 26, 2012, The Medical City (TMC) liver transplant team successfully performed its second liver transplant, giving Amytis a new lease on life by removing her diseased liver and transplanting a cadaver liver from a brain dead person. The team was composed of highly qualified and internationally-trained experts headed by Dr. Vanessa De Villa, a liver transplant surgeon who has worked in some of the best transplant centers in the world.
Jack Taguiam-The Doctors’ Advice Saved My Life
As early as 2007, Jack Taguiam already knew he needed to undergo triple bypass surgery. However, it took him four (4) years to finally agree to the operation.

For the past three years, lawyer Bertrand A. Baterina has been trying to pursue a healthy lifestyle. He watches his diet very closely and engages in physical activities five times a week.
