Newly-elected Mayor Vico Sotto visited premier health institution The Medical City (TMC) on June 24, a few days before he officially started his term as chief of Pasig City.

His visit allowed him to meet with hospital leaders led by President and CEO Dr. Eugenio Jose F. Ramos and Chairman of the Board Jose Xavier B. Gonzales as well as members of the TMC community. Among the matters discussed during the visit were Sotto’s plans to implement a localized healthcare system and how TMC can help him realize this, thus giving Pasigueños access to quality healthcare.

After a brief reception at the Office of the President, Sotto was accompanied by TMC leaders in a short tour of the different areas of the hospital which included the Augusto P. Sarmiento Cancer Institute (APSCI), the Cardiovascular Institute (CVI), and the Center for Liver Disease Management and Transplantation (CLDMT).

They proceeded to the lobby after the tour where Sotto delivered a short message to the TMC community, patients, and other guests.

“Maraming salamat po sa napakainit na pagtangap nyo sa akin at sa aming team. Alam nyo nung nagsimula po akong mag ikot sa Pasig City, mga 2014 po yun bago po ako tumakbong konsehal, nakita ko po agad ang unang pangangailangan ng mga Pasigueño ay yung sa healthcare, yung sa pangkalusugan (Thank you so much for the warm welcome for me and my team. When I began going around Pasig City in 2014, before I ran for councilor, I already saw healthcare as a primary need of Pasigueños.)

“Kaya po nung tumakbo akong mayor ngayong 2019, sabi ko kung palarin tayo, mabigyan tayo ng Diyos ng pagkakataon, kailangan po gawin nating number 1 priority ng bagong administrasyon ang sa pangkalusugan. (So when I ran for mayor this 2019, I said if I win, if God gives me the chance, I should see to it that the new administration’s number one priority is healthcare.),” said Sotto.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa buong team ng Medical City. Napaka-blessed po, pinagpala po ang Pasig City, isa sa pinakamagandang ospital sa Pilipinas nandito po sa Pasig City (I’m thanking the whole team of Medical City. Pasig City is indeed blessed, one of the best hospitals in the Philippines is here in Pasig City.)

“In the next three years, magtrabaho po tayo, magtulungan po tayo, at magsumikap po tayo, para sa mas magandang partnership ng ating ospital sa local government unit at isulong natin ang universal healthcare, ang kalusugan na para sa lahat at abot kaya ng bawat mamamayan ng Pasig (In the next three years, let us work together, let us persevere for a better partnership between the hospital and the local government unit and let us support the Universal Healthcare, healthcare for all that is within reach of every citizen of Pasig),” said Sotto.

Dr. Ramos in turn thanked the mayor and assured him of TMC’s support to his endeavors.

“Promise natin kay mayor at sa mga tao ng Pasig yung ginagawa natin dati, gagawin natin ng mas mahusay kasi ngayon may partnership na tayo sa government ng Pasig (Let us promise our mayor and the people of Pasig that what we have been doing in the past, we’ll improve further, because now we have a partnership with the government of Pasig),” said Dr. Ramos.

TMC employees who are also Pasigueños were ecstatic to see their millennial mayor.

“I am hoping that our city will be more progressive with Vico Sotto as mayor,” said Jessica Hallare, TMC nurse and a resident of Dela Paz, Pasig City.

Sotto earlier announced he will prioritize healthcare, education, the provision of basic services such as garbage collection, and improve transport in consultation with experts in urban planning.

Dr. Ramos as head of the TMC enterprise and Sotto as Pasig City mayor have some things in common. They both believe that change is inevitable and that leadership must be defined according to the realities of a constantly evolving generation.
