Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto visits newly launched TMC Pedia ER
The enhanced Pediatric Emergency Care Unit brings FastER care, a doctor-led triage, and a child-centered approach to families when they need it most.
Pasig City, Philippines – Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto visited The Medical City (TMC) Ortigas for the formal launch of its enhanced Pediatric Emergency Room (Pedia ER), a dedicated facility designed to provide faster, more coordinated, and child-centered emergency care.
Mayor Sotto joined Dr. Stuart Bennett, President and Group CEO of The Medical City, and Dr. Ruben G. Kasala, EVP and CEO of The Medical City Ortigas, during the inauguration of the new facility. During his visit, he welcomed TMC’s continued investment in healthcare services and highlighted the hospital’s role in strengthening Pasig City’s healthcare provider network.
“As someone who lives just down the road, our family has seen how The Medical City has really improved and upgraded itself in the last several years. So, we’re very happy to see these developments.” Mayor Sotto said.
“And of course, on the side of the local government unit, one of the things that we’re really trying to improve now is our healthcare provider network, and The Medical City is and will continue to be a big part of that.”

Bringing FastER care to young patients
Children experience illness and emergencies differently from adults, making specialized care especially important during urgent situations. The enhanced Pedia ER was designed around these needs, providing a dedicated environment for timely assessment, coordinated treatment, and a more reassuring experience for children and their families.
The 10-bed facility features dedicated care zones, improved patient flow, and a strategically located Nurses’ Station that helps the healthcare team coordinate care across the unit. Its location also provides convenient access to TMC’s diagnostic, medical, and specialty services when additional care is needed.
The enhanced Pedia ER follows TMC’s FastER system, with a doctor-led triage that allows physicians to assess each child early and determine the appropriate next steps in their care. It also supports TMC’s 4-Hour Promise, providing families with a clearer and more coordinated journey from initial assessment and diagnostics to treatment, admission, or discharge, depending on the child’s needs.

The launch reflects TMC’s broader commitment to bringing global excellence to every Filipino by making specialized, patient-centered care more accessible to the communities it serves.
For Dr. Stuart Bennett, President and Group CEO of The Medical City and an emergency medicine specialist, this also means giving parents the reassurance of knowing that their child will be assessed quickly and directed to the care they need.
“If you have any doubt, you should just come to the emergency department. If the child is not that sick, we will tell you within five to ten minutes [...] so you can relax, and probably, we’ll be able to send the child home,” Dr. Bennett said. “But if the child is really sick, then within the first five or ten minutes, they’ll be in the right place, and they’ll be safe.”
With the enhanced Pedia ER, families have a dedicated place to turn to during some of their most worrying moments—one built specifically for children and backed by the expertise and coordinated care of The Medical City.
