Multidisciplinary Family Meeting

Our Multidisciplinary Family Meeting is a special service where a team of dedicated cancer specialists, nurses, and healthcare professionals come together to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to the unique profile and preferences of each patient.

We understand that family members play a crucial role in the patient's journey, which is why we actively involve them in our multidisciplinary meetings. These meetings create a safe and supportive environment where both the patient and their loved ones can freely ask questions, express any concerns or reservations they may have, and actively participate in making important decisions about the patient's care plan.

We value open communication and collaboration, and we believe that by including the patient and their family in these meetings, we can ensure that their voices are heard, their needs are understood, and their preferences are taken into account.

Nutrition Management Services

At The Medical City, we understand the importance of nutrition management in personalized cancer care. We believe in addressing not only the cancer itself but also the underlying factors that contribute to its risk, such as obesity and unhealthy lifestyle choices. Our Nutrition Management Services are designed to support patients in achieving a healthy weight, reducing their risk of cancer and other associated health conditions.

We recognize that excess body fat, consuming too many calories, and lack of physical activity can significantly increase the risk of various types of cancer, as well as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and premature mortality. Our caring team is dedicated to guiding patients on a journey towards optimal health and well-being.

By focusing on nutrition management, we aim to help individuals maintain a healthy weight and make positive lifestyle changes. Through personalized dietary plans, education on portion control, healthy food choices, and the importance of regular physical activity, we strive to empower our patients to take control of their health and reduce their risk of cancer and related diseases.

It is crucial to address the link between obesity and cancer risk, especially in relation to:

  • Breast cancer (among postmenopausal women)
  • Colon and rectal cancer
  • Endometrial cancer
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer

Additionally, being overweight or obese is likely associated with an increased risk of other cancers, such as:

  • Gallbladder cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Cervical cancer
  • Aggressive forms of prostate cancer

Our goal is to anticipate, prevent, and alleviate suffering while supporting the best possible quality of life for patients and their families, regardless of the stage of the disease or the need for other therapies. Cancer Support Group

The Cancer Support Group at The Medical City is a valuable resource for individuals and their families who are navigating the challenges of cancer. Meetings are held every first Saturday of the month and offer a range of activities, including the Wellness in Illness Program. This program provides a semi-structured intervention designed to facilitate emotional expression and processing for patients with chronic and debilitating illnesses, along with their families.

The primary modalities of the Wellness in Illness Program include:

  • Eat: Emphasizing the importance of nutrition for overall health and well-being during illness, helping patients optimize their nutritional intake to support their physical and emotional resilience.
  • Pray: Recognizing the significance of spirituality and prayer as sources of comfort, strength, and guidance during the cancer journey, providing a space to explore and nurture one's spiritual well-being.
  • Live: Encouraging self-expression through various creative outlets such as art, music, dance, and creative writing. These activities provide a means for patients to express themselves, find joy, and cultivate a sense of purpose beyond their illness.

The objectives of the Cancer Support Group and the Wellness in Illness Program are:

  • Providing a supportive environment for emotional expression primarily for patients and their families/caregivers. This allows individuals to share their feelings, fears, and experiences with others who understand and can provide empathy and support.
  • Facilitating coping strategies to address the physical and emotional symptoms associated with illnesses and their treatments. Through shared experiences, education, and guidance, individuals can develop effective coping skills to manage the challenges they face.

The Cancer Support Group aims to foster a sense of community, resilience, and empowerment. It provides a safe space where individuals can connect, find solace, and gain valuable insights from others who are going through similar experiences. By addressing emotional well-being and coping strategies, the group supports individuals in their journey towards improved quality of life and a stronger sense of personal well-being.
