About Us
The dialysis unit is one of the specialized areas of The Medical City (TMC) that takes care of patients who need renal replacement treatment for acute and chronic renal failure both in and outpatients. The staff are competent, Nephrologists who are Board certified by the Philippine Society of Nephrology, Nephrology Fellows-in-training, hemodialysis-trained nurses and technicians.
The TMC Hemodialysis Unit is located at the 2nd floor Podium of the hospital. It has 30 machines; including one (1) dedicated for Hepatitis B positive patients and four (4) machines for ICU patients. It has three (3) beds and seventeen (17) reclining chairs. There is one (1) isolation room for those with communicable diseases.

Dialysis treatments
Laboratory examination packages (Complete Blood Count, blood chemistry, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
Patient health education
The unit also has the following features:
Purification of water is double pass reverse osmosis.
Sterilization and regular strict disinfection of the machine and monthly culture is done every last Sunday of the month.
Water analysis, specifically chemical is done every 3 months by an independent Department of health-accredited laboratory. Endotoxin level determination is done monthly.
The unit is fully equipped to address emergency situations.

The Health Care Team
Medical
Board certified Nephrologists are responsible for the overall care of the patient. A Nephrology Fellow-in-training or the Medical Resident on duty stays in the unit.
Patients are referred to different specialties (Psychiatry, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, Orthopedics, Vascular Surgery, Physiatrist, Rheumatology, Nutrition) and other services (Stoma and Complex Wound Care, Continuity of Care Center, Dietician) as the need arises.
Nursing
The Nursing Staff is composed of the Head Nurse and Staff Nurses who work on eight hour shifts every day. They assess, plan, coordinate and deliver 24-hour individualized care.
Hemodialysis Technician
The hemodialysis technician prepares the machines for the procedures and deals with machine related problems accordingly. They disinfect and clean the dialyzers for reuse. They perform monthly cultures of the water supply and other errands that are assigned to them.
Dietitian
A dietitian is available upon referral. She provides advice on proper diet necessary for each patient. She also delivers lectures to the hemodialysis staff.
Pastoral Care/ Chaplain
The chaplain is available for support, administering prayers and sacraments.
The Hemodialysis Unit is located on the 2nd Floor of The Medical City’s Nursing Tower.
It is open 24 hours and divided into four shifts a day from Monday to Sunday except during disinfection, which is on the last Sunday of the month. First session starts at 6:00 AM followed by 12:00 PM, 6:00 PM and 12:00 AM subsequently. In emergency situations, patients are accommodated based on the needs or circumstances.
The unit is open from Monday to Saturday, 24/7. Special rates shall apply during emergency accommodation beyond regular operating hours such as Sundays and public holidays.
