ARTHUR EIDELMAN MD FAAP FABM

Arthur I. Eidelman MD FAAP FABM graduated from the Einstein College of Medicine in 1963 in New York and trained in Pediatrics and Neonatology at the Yale University School of Medicine.

Board certified in both Pediatrics and Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine, he returned to Einstein in 1969 as the Director of Newborn Services and Assistant Director of Pediatrics.

In 1978 he moved to Israel and established the first Department of Neonatology in Israel, served as the first President of the Israel Neonatal Society and as Founding Father of the Israel Board of Neonatology.

Subsequently, he became Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, and Professor of Pediatrics at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, the Hebrew University School of Medicine, and Research Scientist at Yale University Child Study Center.

Dr. Eidelman has authored over 200 peer reviewed articles, monographs, and textbooks in the field of Pediatrics and Neonatology on issues related to infection, breastfeeding, nutrition, infant neurobehavioral development and medical ethics.

Dr. Eidelman serves as the International Editor of The Journal of Perinatology, (the official Journal of the Section of Perinatal Medicine of the American Academy of Pediatrics - AAP), as a member of the Editorial Board of Breastfeeding Medicine and the Journal of Human Lactation, as a member of the Medical Advisory Board of La Leche League International. He is the lead author of the 2012 AAP Policy Statement: "Breast Feeding and the Use of Human Milk". Since 2015 he serves as the Editor in Chief of Breastfeeding Medicine, the official journal of ABM.

Dr. Eidelman is the Scientific Coordinator and Advisor to the Dream Doctors project of Medical Clowning and is strong advocate of the role that the medical clown play as an integral part of the modern health care team.

 

MIRIAM LABBOK MD MPH FACPM IBCLC FABM

Miriam Labbok MD, MPH, FACPM, IBCLC, FABM is an internationally renowned breastfeeding advocate, lactation 

scientist, and women's and children's issues advocate.

Dr. Labbok is known for the development of Lactational Amenorrhea Method as a method of birth spacing. She is the author of more than 300 research articles and book chapters in the areas of breastfeeding, women's and children's health, and birth spacing.

She champions community health initiatives using operational and translational research approaches. Together with Paige Hall Smith, PhD, Dr. Labbok organizes yearly Breastfeeding and Feminism symposium - a scientific forum to look at breastfeeding as a social and a public health issue.

She is currently Professor and Director of Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute, Department of Maternal and Child Health, Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Miriam has served as a Senior Advisor to UNICEF on Infant and Young Children Feeding and Care and with USAID as Director of Maternal Health. She formerly held faculty positions at Georgetown University and at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She has traveled extensively lecturing. 

 

JENNIFER THOMAS MD MPH IBCLC FABM FAAP

 

Dr. Jennifer Thomas is a pediatrician and breastfeeding medicine specialist in Franklin, Wisconsin, USA and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Community and Family Medicine and Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is now serving on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Breastfeeding Executive Board after spending several years as the Chief of the Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinators.  She also serves on the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Chapter of the AAP, and is a founder and the immediate-past Chairperson of the Wisconsin Breastfeeding Coalition. She is the author of "Dr. Jen’s Guide to Breastfeeding."

Dr. Thomas is a sought after speaker, giving presentations on breastfeeding to any group willing to listen.  She has received awards for teaching, advocacy for children, and innovation with in her practice and community.  She is one of only a handful of physicians who are recognized internationally as a Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (FABM) for her expertise on breastfeeding.

Dr. Thomas' interests and research have focused on issues related to the use of social media to support breastfeeding mothers.

 

JULIE SMITH PhD

Dr. Julie Smith has a PhD in Economics (Australian National University). She received her certificate in breastfeeding education in 2008 from the Australian Breastfeeding Association and is currently working on her research on the economics of breastmilk.

Dr. Smith is a recipient of the following prizes, awards and distinctions: Australian Research Council Future Fellowship 2014-2018; International Lactation Consultants’ Association, Best Research Poster Award, Conference, July 2013; International Society for Research on Human Milk and Lactation, International Conference 2008 Travel Scholarship, 2007; Australian Research Council Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship 2004-2006; Nomination for Australian of the Year (2006); ACT International Women’s Day (2004); Canberra Citizen of the Year (2004) & Health Promotion Awards (2003); Australian Institute for Gambling Research, Brian Frost Prize, 1998;  Land Values Research Group Tax Reform Challenge Prize, 1998; Peter Harrison Memorial Prize in the Field of Town Planning, ANU, 1994; Australian Postgraduate Research Award, 1993-96, and Institute of Advanced Studies, Prize in Economic History IV, ANU, 1982.
