Insulin Therapy:

1. Handling and Storage:

  • Keep away from direct heat and light.
  • Can only be used for 28 days once opened.

2. Administration Guidelines

  • Inject subcutaneously (90 deg if short needle, 45 deg if long needle).
  • Never rub or massage the injection site.
  • Always rotate injection sites.

3. Disposal

  • Needles are ideally used ONCE.
  • Throw needles in appropriate receptacles.


Hypoglycemia:

1) Check your blood sugar right away
2) Eat or drink a sugary food such as:

  • ½ cup of regular fruit juice
  • ½ cup of regual soda
  • 3 to 4 glucose tablets
  • 3 to 5 hard candies that you can chew quickly

3) Wait for 15 minutes then check your blood sugar again.
4) Do not feed by mouth if unconscious
5) Call medical attention if problem not resolved


Recommendations:

1) Have a regular check up with your Endocrinologist
2) Have an annual eye exam
3) Visit your dentist at least every 6 months
4) Take care of your feet
5) Maintain proper hygiene at all times
