Guam – 24 May 2012 – The Medical City’s (TMC) senior management team led the Foundation Pour Ceremony today at the Guam Regional Medical City’s hospital construction site. The ceremony marked a major milestone in the construction of the island’s only private hospital and included the foundation blessing, an architectural preview, and an escorted tour of the hospital site.
“As we begin actual hospital construction, we are excited to see the fruits of our labor begin to take shape,” said Margaret A. Bengzon, President and CEO of the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC). “Through GRMC, we showcase our commitment to partner with Guam and Micronesia in advancing shared goals of health, development and equity," added Ms. Bengzon. The ceremony was also marked by a presentation of a Guam Legislative Resolution, presented by Senator Rory J. Respico, commending Ms. Bengzon and the GRMC staff for their tireless efforts to improve the state of medical care on Guam and the Micronesia region.
The new hospital’s footprint continues to take shape and every day brings new progress. 1,696 cubic yards of concrete have been poured to date. The architects and engineers are now putting the finishing touches on the final plans, and the project remains right on schedule.
“Soon, the residents of Guam and Micronesia will enjoy the top quality specialized care at home as they deserve,” said Dr. Alfredo R. A. Bengzon, TMC’s President and CEO. “Services will be distinguished by TMC's unique brand of health care, where the patient is a full, equal and empowered partner of his physicians on the road to good health.” said Dr. Bengzon.
The US$215M project, launched last November, is expected to be completed by 2014. GRMC is majority owned and operated by TMC, a Joint Commission accredited Philippine healthcare organization. GRMC’s services will be aligned with TMC’s centers of excellence and the region’s specific health profile, featuring wellness, cardiology, medical oncology, endocrinology, pulmonology, neurology and other medical and surgical subspecialties. TMC’s unique value proposition of patient empowerment and partnership will enliven all programs and services.
