With the Philippines becoming one of the top medical tourism destinations in the world, mobile services provider Smart Communications has teamed up with world-class healthcare organization The Medical City (TMC) to welcome medical tourists with a special prepaid SIM card that allows them to stay connected with friends and loved ones.

Under the partnership, foreign patients who are flying to the Philippines to obtain medical treatment at TMC will get a complimentary Smart LTE Tourist SIM, which they can activate upon arrival in the country. Medical tourists may enjoy up to 1GB of data with each Smart LTE Tourist SIM, which comes with 300MB data valid for three days, plus 700MB data reward when they top up at least Php30 within three days of activation.

With this SIM, users may rely on Smart’s newest and fastest LTE network to enjoy ready access to all the information and practical apps they need for a smooth stay in the country – they may update their family and friends about their condition, keep tabs on local and international news, and enjoy their favorite dose of mobile content as they recover from their treatment.

19th in the world for medical tourism

“The Smart LTE Tourist SIM is our sweet treat for medical tourists who come to experience world-class healthcare at The Medical City. Through it, we aim to provide them all the mobile services they need for a meaningful and memorable stay in the Philippines,” said Gabby Cui, Head of Community Development and Partnerships

"We at The Medical City are committed to doing all we can to make our patients' stay at the hospital as comfortable and pleasant as possible. With this partnership with Smart Telecommunications, we are offering our patients a great option to stay connected with their loved ones while they're away from home," said Jay Bengzon, TMC Vice President for Marketing.

The Philippines ranks 19th in the 2016 Medical Tourism Index, compiled by the International Healthcare Research Center to assess the attractiveness of a country as a medical tourist destination. Medical tourists flying to the Philippines usually come from China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, the Pacific Islands, Australia, USA, Europe, United Kingdom and the Gulf States.

TMC seeks to help further promote and boost the country’s reputation as a major healthcare destination as it has taken its brand into the global arena with its ownership and operation of Guam Regional Medical City, the first and only private hospital in Guam, and the establishment of ambulatory clinics in Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
