The Medical City's (TMC) Nutrition Management Services (NMS) Team was cited as a model of excellence for hospital nutrition efforts worldwide during the recently concluded First Hospital Nutrition State of the Art Summit.

The Medical City’s (TMC) Nutrition Management Services (NMS) Team was cited as a model of excellence for hospital nutrition efforts worldwide during the recently concluded First Hospital Nutrition State of the Art Summit. Spearheaded by Abbott Nutrition International, the two-day summit at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel gathered physicians, nutritionist-dieticians and nurses from various hospitals around Asia that are recognized as centers or potential centers for nutrition excellence, as well as a delegate from the United States’ Virtua Health Systems.

The summit’s participants were given a tour of TMC’s facilities, such as the Center for Wellness and Aesthetics, the Intensive Care Unit, and the Pulmonary Laboratory, and other venues around the hospital in which the NMS Team engages it services.

“We were able to present TMC’s unique practice of screening and assessing the nutritional status of all the patients we admit. We are proud to say that our foreign colleagues were impressed by the fact that we provide diet recommendations for all our patients regardless of the severity of illness and age. As with the rest of the hospital, the NMS Team recognizes that every patient is a unique individual, and can best benefit from a personalized and customized approach to health care. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to health care, and that includes how patients are nourished during treatment,” says Dr. Marianna Sy-Quia Sioson, Nutrition Management Physician of the NMS.

The summit enabled all participants to glean knowledge from each other’s presentations, which each showcased advanced systems innovations in data gathering and analysis. Sophisticated research methodologies and voluminous studies were also shared, further encouraging the participants to reassess and improve on the systems of their respective nutrition centers.

“We expect to exchange more information and expertise from various hospitals not only in Asia, but from medical centers around the world. This summit is just one of the many ways through which TMC can continue to raise the bar in providing excellent health care services that others can follow, and perhaps even improve on,” concludes Dr. Sioson.
