TMC received perfect scores in critical standards on Patient and Family Rights, Patient and Family Education, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, Governance and Leadership Direction and Management of Communication and Information.
In recognition of its strong commitment to quality patient care, The Medical City (TMC) has been officially re-accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), the world’s most prestigious accrediting body for health care organizations, following an on-site survey in November 2012.
TMC received perfect scores in critical standards on Patient and Family Rights, Patient and Family Education, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, Governance and Leadership Direction and Management of Communication and Information.
“It is with great pleasure that I inform you of the decision to grant ACCREDITATION to The Medical City in achieving this recognition of your commitment to provide quality care on an ongoing basis,” said Ann K. Jacobson, JCI Executive Director for International Accreditation, in her letter addressed to TMC President and CEO Dr. Alfredo R.A. Bengzon.
This is the 3rd accreditation of TMC by JCI. TMC was first accredited in 2006 and again in 2009. “The citizens of Philippines should be proud that The Medical City is focusing on this most challenging goal – to continuously raise quality to higher levels,” Jacobson said.
A team composed of Andrew Fallat, team leader and JCI Administrator Surveyor; David Loose, JCI Nurse Surveyor; Dr. Enrico Baldantoni, JCI Physician Surveyor and Dr. Azhar Ali, JCI Preceptee Physician Surveyor visited TMC on November 12 to 16, 2012.
Last November’s on-site evaluation covered 320 JCI standards and over 1,200 measurable elements were examined. TMC garnered a total score of 9.88 in the latest JCI survey which was higher than the previous ratings. TMC got 9.79 rating in 2006 and 9.78 in 2009.
In his message to the TMC community, Fallat cited TMC for having a solid reputation as a health institution.
“We knew that this is an organization that has been accredited for six years, we knew you had a solid reputation and we have observed why and how you received that reputation. It’s because it's an excellent organization led by brave people who chose to go beyond the standards of the immediate community and stand forth, with hospitals around the world to accomplish higher and higher goals and in fact, goals that cannot be accomplished because the goal constantly improves,” said Fallat.
“This hospital deserves a continuation of its accreditation,” Fallat added.
Dr. Bengzon, for his part, acknowledged the JCI’s noble task as the most prestigious international healthcare accreditation body that sets and monitors standards for healthcare organizations internationally.
“The document reviews, tracer activities, facility and mini tours, focused discussions, daily briefings and variety of meetings have helped us discover how we can bring to higher level the goodness and giftedness that lie in each one of us here at The Medical City,” said Dr. Bengzon.
“They have revealed us to ourselves in the process and this exercise has led us to a more profound understanding of ourselves and of The Medical City, in these times, in this century, as citizens and institution of the Philippines invited to assume a leadership role,” he added.
With the coveted JCI gold seal, each person who comes to TMC is assured of receiving healthcare services that are at par with the best hospitals in the world.
