The Medical City (TMC) was recently awarded with a Blue rating by the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) for its exceptional environmental performance and adherence to the standards of LLDA under the 6th cycle of the Public Disclosure Program for Industries within the Laguna de Bay Region.

The awarding was held on September 20, 2013 at the Sugar Regulatory Compound in Quezon City. TMC Safety Management Department manager Mary Ann E. Artates received the award on behalf of the premier health institution.

The Public Disclosure Program in the Laguna de Bay Region rates the degree of pollution discharged by establishments as well as the extent of efforts by company management in controlling these discharges. The criteria includes only water-related parameters such as technical data on indicators for pollution discharge and administrative requirements like payment of pollution charges, user fees and submission of self-monitoring reports . The Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) is the primary determinant for compliance being used.

The program then assigns color ratings according to the system. The lowest ratings are black and red while the Blue award is given if the company’s effluents are consistently within standards for a one-year rating period, in full compliance with all other LLDA regulatory requirements, and with well maintained wastewater treatment equipment. The highest rating which is Green is given to companies which have rated Blue in the previous rating period, with effluents better than standard by at least 20 percent, and with well functioning monitoring equipment.
