Delivering world-class health care and patient partnership to the Western Visayan Region

In its thrust to deliver world-class health care and patient partnership to the Western Visayan region, Great Saviour International Hospital (GSIH), managed and operated by The Medical City (TMC), launched its cutting-edge cardiovascular program in a three-day event from June 16 to 18. Present at the event were top officials from both GSIH and TMC, and key regional government officials.

On the first day, an episode of TMC’s Fit and Fine interactive forum was held at SM City-Iloilo, wherein TMC cardiovascular experts, led by GSIH’s cardiovascular program head Dr. Leo Malunes, discussed how to care for the heart, and mall-goers enjoyed heart-healthy cooking and fitness demos and free cardiovascular risk screening.

The second day saw the launch proper of the GSIH’s Cardiovascular Program, starting off with a motorcade from SM City-Iloilo to GSIH, followed by blessings and ribbon cuttings of TMC-I’s new and advanced facilities helmed by TMC Chairman of the Board Augusto P. Sarmiento, President and CEO Dr. Alfredo R. A. Bengzon and Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo. Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor presented the Catheterization Laboratory; Department of Health Regional Director Dr. Ariel Valencia presented the newly-renovated Operating Room and Intensive Care Unit; Iloilo Mayor Jed Mabilog presented the CT Scan, Mammography and 2D Echo facilities; Department of Tourism Regional Director Edwin Trompeta presented the International Patient Services Center; and GSIH pulmonologist Dr. Rene Juaneza presented the consultation clinics. A lunch reception and press conference followed at the Westown Hotel.

The event culminated on the third day with “Walking in the City,” a morning exercise program at the riverside followed by a forum on nutrition by TMC nutritionist Carol Hernandez.

“GSIH, being the very first to offer a world-class Cardiovascular Program in Western Visayas, helps fulfill our commitment to bringing cutting-edge, quality health care to more Filipinos through our national expansion strategy,” says Dr. Bengzon. “GISH is also a new beacon for our institution’s unique patient partnership philosophy, where patients and doctors openly and equally collaborate towards effective, highly customized care.”
