18 April 2011: In light of the results of the Metro Manila Earthquake Impact Reduction Study (MMEIRS), which indicated that Metro Manila is exposed to high risk from a 7.2-magnitude earthquake, heads of hospitals and health offices both private and public across the cities of Pasig and Marikina.

The Medical City (TMC) included — have formed an executive committee in partnership with the Department of Health’s (DOH) Center for Health Development that shall implement the guiding principles of the Comprehensive Earthquake Vulnerability Reduction and Response Plan (CEVRRP) within the concerned establishments. The Memorandum of Agreement for this endeavor was signed on April 18, 2011 at TMC’s Augusto M. Barcelon Auditorium.

The component members consented to bind themselves to mutually assist each other in the following aspects: the implementation of earthquake disaster preparedness and mitigation programs by sharing experiences, knowledge and technical skills; and the provision of resources and assistance to the members that are greatly affected by the earthquake and whose needs have gone beyond their means to cope based on pre-arranged protocols.

“This endeavor highlights TMC’s staunch commitment to the local health sector, and to the safety and wellbeing of its immediate community,” says TMC President and CEO Dr. Alfredo R.A. Bengzon. “As witnessed before in natural disasters such as Ondoy and its succeeding leptospirosis outbreak, the TMC community gives its all in providing professional, quality assistance amidst dire situations in the service of fellow Filipinos.”
