TMC Unveils New Laboratory Automation System

The Medical City formally opens its new, state-of-the-art and fully automated laboratory system that will ensure the most efficient and high quality testing for patients. This investment once again reinforces The Medical City’s commitment to provide world-class healthcare services.

TMC partnered with Abbott Diagnostics to launch the most advanced laboratory automation system – the ACCELERATOR Automated Processing System (APS). The partnership has resulted in a unique, innovative solution designed around efficient laboratory operations, accurate clinical results, and the highest commitment to patient care.

About 70% of the clinical decisions made by the 1,500 strong medical staff are influenced by laboratory diagnostics services, making it critical to have a highly efficient laboratory operation with the highest levels of service.

TMC chose Abbott for its ability to re-design the laboratory and enable streamlined work processes, automate many labor-intensive work steps, support important Green initiatives, and most importantly, maintain high levels of quality in assay and system performance using Abbott ARCHITECT clinical chemistry and immunoassay analyzers.

These improvements directly correlate to a physician's ability to better diagnose a patient's condition. This quality is also closely tied to TMC's commitment to the rigorous review and accreditation process of the Joint Commission International (JCI), the world's most prestigious accrediting body for healthcare organizations. With the new TMC-Abbott partnership, each patient is assured of receiving fast, accurate laboratory services at par with the best hospitals in the world.

The laboratory’s quality assurance process has also been enhanced. Streamlined procedures, less paperwork, plus the automated analysis of test results helps ensure the laboratory is at the forefront of quality, while supporting important Green initiatives.

The TMC Laboratory is composed of the following sections: Phlebotomy, Clinical Microscopy, Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Immunology and Special Chemistry, Molecular Diagnostics, Microbiology, Blood Bank and Transfusion Services, and Anatomical Pathology. The Emergency Department Satellite Laboratory and Ambulatory Service Center are also under TMC Laboratory.
