The Medical City continues to gain international recognition, recently clinching a spot on Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2025
Pasig City, Philippines – July 15, 2025 – The Medical City (TMC) has earned a spot in Newsweek and Statista’s 2025 list of top-performing hospitals across the Asia Pacific region. Recognized for its excellence in specialized care, TMC stands among world-class institutions from ten countries, including Australia, Japan, and Singapore.
In this year’s list, The Medical City Ortigas was cited for its strengths in Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Oncology. Meanwhile, The Medical City Clark’s Pediatric services also made it to the ranking—a significant milestone for a hospital serving communities outside Metro Manila.
But more than the numbers, these standings reflect real lives transformed by medical expertise and compassionate, personalized care.
TMC’s Heart Attack Program is one of Asia’s leading clinical care programs. This was evident in 2024 when it received its 4th consecutive Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission International (JCI), a global organization that sets rigorous standards for patient safety and healthcare quality in hospitals and clinics around the world. TMC’s Heart Attack Program is the first of its kind in the Philippines and one of 12 programs worldwide to be given this recognition.
TMC’s Acute Myocardial Infarction or Heart Attack Care Program is designed to open a blocked artery within one hour.
In the most recent record, the program achieved a 95% survival rate for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), one of the most severe forms of heart attack, by ensuring patients receive life-saving interventions within the critical window. One of those patients was a 45-year-old patient who arrived at TMC Ortigas with obvious signs of a heart attack.
Upon her arrival at the Emergency Department, the attending physicians immediately activated the hospital’s acute myocardial infarction (AMI) protocol. Within minutes, she was wheeled into the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, where Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Paolo Prado led the team in performing an emergency angioplasty.
The procedure successfully restored blood flow to the heart. By the next morning, she was sitting up, speaking to her family, and on her way to recovery.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s neurosurgery is continuing to revolutionize personalized medicine for complex brain and spine conditions.
In January, TMC performed a 3D-printed cranial reconstruction on a patient who had sustained a traumatic brain injury from a workplace accident and had previously undergone an emergency craniectomy in 2023. This left a section of his skull missing. To restore the missing portion, TMC doctors used advanced imaging and 3D printing to create a custom-made cranial implant made from PEEK (polyether ether ketone)—a strong, biocompatible polymer that mimics the density and resilience of human bone. Unlike traditional metal implants, PEEK is lightweight, non-conductive, and more comfortable for patients.
Using detailed CT scans of the patient’s head, TMC’s neurosurgeons and biomedical engineers designed an implant that matched the exact shape and size of the missing bone. This personalized approach allowed for a better fit, minimized surgical risks, and improved healing.

In cancer care, TMC’s multidisciplinary team approach brings together specialists from different fields to create a treatment plan tailored to each patient’s unique journey. For Sheryl Mercado, a 43-year-old breast cancer patient, this approach meant more than clinical precision—it meant trust, clarity, and shared decision-making.
“I’m still doing my chemo. I’m also still under the monitoring of my cardiologist, endocrinologist, and nephrologist… I’m confident [in] the doctors and the hospital…we’re not a patient, we’re a family,” she shared.

Her positive outlook on her cancer journey is a reflection not only of expert medical care but of a system designed to support every patient physically, emotionally, and personally.
“What these stories show is that excellence in healthcare isn’t confined to a single specialty—it’s embedded in how we work, how we listen, and how we respond to each patient’s needs,” said Dr. Ruben G. Kasala, Executive Vice President and CEO of The Medical City Ortigas.
In Central Luzon, TMC Clark is earning national recognition for its Pediatrics program, where families of children with specialized conditions find expert care closer to home. The hospital’s commitment to pediatric development, critical care, and early intervention services reflects an enterprise-wide priority to make specialized care more accessible to Filipinos in the regions.
“We never set out to win awards; we set out to win trust. To serve with integrity, lead with heart, and deliver world-class care that never forgets its roots. Getting recognized affirms what we’ve always believed: that the Philippines can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in global healthcare, powered by skill, compassion, and malasakit,” said Dr. Stuart Bennett, President and Group CEO of The Medical City.
The ranking methodology included peer recommendations from more than 30,000 medical professionals, patient satisfaction scores, and performance indicators. TMC’s appearance across multiple specialties affirms its position as a leading integrated healthcare network in the Asia Pacific region and Among the World’s Best.
