The Medical City concluded its two-day Sustainability Summit 2025 on November 18–19 entitled “Elevating Sustainable Healthcare, Forging the Future", which served a platform to align ESG and Sustainability as a strategic priority for the organization.
December 4, 2025 - Pasig City, Philippines – The Medical City (TMC) concluded its two-day Sustainability Summit 2025 on November 18–19, bringing together more than 300 onsite and virtual participants to advance the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices across the healthcare network.
Held in TMC Ortigas, the summit was the centerpiece of TMC’s Sustainability Week and carried the theme, “Elevating Sustainable Healthcare, Forging the Future.” It served as a platform for institutional leaders, external experts, and TMC community to align ESG and Sustainability as a strategic priority for the organization.

Leadership underscores sustainability as essential to healthcare
TMC Ortigas Executive Vice President and CEO Dr. Ruben G. Kasala opened the summit by emphasizing that environmental responsibility, social equity, and governance are integral to delivering modern healthcare.
"For TMC, environmental responsibility, social equity, and good governance are not optional strategies, they are fundamental duties," said Dr. Ruben G. Kasala. "Healthcare must be both a protector of human life and a steward of the planet. We are intensifying our focus on ecological stewardship, strengthening our community partnerships, and ensuring strong governance to embed ESG as the guiding framework for our future," he added.

Allan Gabriel G. Carasco, Group Head of TMC’s ESG, reinforced the organization’s long-term commitment, emphasizing that sustainability is not a singular event, but an "ongoing journey" dependent on the daily, combined efforts of every TMCitizen. He underscored that the success of the ESG strategy is fundamentally reliant on collective action and that sustainability practices should be a thereby embedding sustainability as an inherent part of the organization's culture and values.
Industry leaders share insights on sustainable healthcare
Throughout the summit, participants heard from keynote speakers including Koleen Davila-Palaganas of SM Investments Corporation, who delivered the core message that the role of healthcare workers is a profound calling centered on the human soul, contributing to a hospital that operates "with a heart."
Ma. Victoria A. Tan of Ayala Corporation emphasized the critical need for strong leadership and company-wide collaboration to transform sustainability from a corporate goal into a shared mindset, ensuring long-term value creation.
Dr. Beatrice J. Tiangco of the Philippine Foundation for Health and Development, Inc., added that a truly sustainable hospital is built on the pillars of People, Purpose, and Patient-Centered Practice, highlighting that sustained public trust and high-quality care are key.

TMC Sustainability Spark complements the summit
Running alongside the summit from November 18–21, TMC Sustainability Spark showcased social entrepreneurs whose products and stories reflect socially responsible and environmentally conscious practices. The initiative reinforces TMC ESG’s goal of supporting communities while cultivating sustainability-driven partnerships.

A call for purpose-driven, people-centered sustainability

In his closing message, Carasco described a sustainable hospital as one “with a heart, where the primary stakeholder is the human soul,” emphasizing that sustainability is both a shared responsibility and a source of pride for the organization.
The summit concluded with a unified commitment to sustainability, as the ESG team officially launched the "TMC Sustainability Pulse," a newsletter designed to sustain awareness, reinforce strategic alignment with the decarbonization roadmap, and promote collaboration and action across TMC’s hospitals and clinics.
Extending Impact Beyond the Summit
TMC ESG Group Head Allan Gabriel G. Carasco highlights how Sustainability in healthcare can build a culture of care for people and planet during the Manila Bulletin Sustainability Forum 2025.
Beyond the summit activities, TMC’s ESG team also took part in the Manila Bulletin Sustainability Forum on November 20, presenting before students of National University. The engagement highlighted TMC’s commitment to bringing its purpose and mission to future leaders and encouraging the next generation to take part in building a more sustainable healthcare landscape.
