Strategically located near the hospital's Adult Emergency Department and future Trauma Unit, the new Pediatric ER strengthens coordination among healthcare teams.
PASIG CITY, Philippines – Children and their families can now access faster, more coordinated emergency care at The Medical City (TMC) following the opening of its newly relocated Pediatric Emergency Room (Pedia ER), a facility designed to provide specialized, child-centered care in a safer and more efficient environment.
Strategically located near the hospital's Adult Emergency Department and future Trauma Unit, the new Pediatric ER strengthens coordination among healthcare teams while improving patient flow and emergency response for pediatric cases.
The facility features a 10-bed capacity and dedicated treatment areas based on the Emergency Severity Index (ESI), an internationally recognized triage system that helps healthcare teams quickly identify and prioritize patients according to the severity of their condition.
All pediatric patients undergo triage upon arrival, enabling medical teams to rapidly assess urgent cases and provide timely intervention when needed. The Pedia ER also features designated care areas for non-urgent, urgent, and emergent cases, helping ensure that every child receives the appropriate level of care as quickly as possible.
"Being located closer to the main Emergency Department and the future Trauma Unit significantly strengthens coordination of care and emergency response," shares Dr. Elaine Dy, Pediatrics Emergency Care Department Head. "The relocation of the Pediatric ER was driven by our goal to improve patient flow, safety, and overall quality of care for our pediatric patients."

The enhanced Pedia ER follows TMC’s FastER System, a physician-led triage process that helps accelerate emergency care delivery. Serving an average of 1,765 patients monthly, the expanded facility is expected to help reduce waiting times and support the hospital's commitment to its "4-Hour Promise" for emergency care.
Dr. Ruben G. Kasala, EVP and CEO of TMC Ortigas, emphasized the importance of timely emergency care in improving patient outcomes.
"Faster emergency services are at the heart of efficient care and can make a critical difference in saving lives," said Dr. Kasala. "Enhancing our emergency care capabilities helps us deliver on our promise of world-class healthcare for every patient who comes through our doors."
