The Medical City Expands Access to Global Quality Care, Takes Top Honors at Healthcare Asia Awards 2026

Four awards. One system. A healthcare network proving that Filipino care belongs on the world stage.

Pasig City, Philippines, March 26, 2026 The Medical City (TMC) took home three major honors at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, one of the region’s most recognized benchmarks for healthcare excellence. TMC was named Hospital Group of the Year, while its nationwide clinic network earned Clinic Group of the Year, and TMC Ortigas was recognized for Medical Tourism Initiative of the Yearand TMC Iloilo received Community Initiative of the YearThe sweep reflects years of deliberate work across a system built not just to treat patients, but to reach them, wherever they are.

“These recognitions reflect the dedication of our physicians, nurses, and employees across the entire The Medical City network. By working as one fully integrated academic health system, we are able to deliver consistently high quality standards of care and make them more accessible across the entire country.”

— Dr. Stuart Bennett, President and Group CEO, The Medical City

Hospital Group of the Year

The Hospital Group of the Year award recognizes TMC’s ability to function as a unified healthcare system rather than a collection of individual hospitals. With facilities in Pasig, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Laguna, and Iloilo, the group has pursued a deliberate strategy of standardizing quality, decentralizing access to specialized care, and strengthening operational sustainability so that standards developed at the flagship level travel across the entire network.

The results are tangible. In 2025, TMC introduced the FastER program across its hospitals, reducing average emergency room stays from 12 hours to four, with patients seen by an emergency medicine physician within 10 minutes of arrival. Both its Heart Attack and Stroke rapid-response programs have earned Joint Commission International (JCI) certifications.

At the regional level, the results speak for themselves. TMC Clark posted its first positive net profit in the hospital’s history, while reaching its highest recorded occupancy. TMC Iloilo, meanwhile, performed the region’s first intravascular lithotripsy, bringing advanced cardiovascular care to Western Visayas for the first time and reducing patient referrals to Metro Manila. At the flagship, TMC Ortigas secured its seventh consecutive JCI accreditation, performed the country’s first robotic Whipple surgery, and expanded access to life-saving liver transplants through a public-private partnership with Rizal Medical Center.

Clinic Group of the Year

TMC Clinic was named Clinic Group of the Year for the third consecutive year, in recognition of its role in expanding access to healthcare at the community level. From 49 clinics in 2020, the network has grown to 74 sites nationwide by 2025, reaching patients across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

These clinics function as comprehensive ambulatory hubs, offering primary care, specialty consultations, diagnostics, rehabilitation, and mental health services. In 2024, the network opened 12 new branches, onboarded over 250 physicians, and completed a full-scale digital transformation, including an integrated ERP system, electronic health record rollout, and centralized appointment systems. It also launched TMC Wellness at Work, a corporate clinic partnership model now active across 15 companies and 28 sites.

Medical Tourism Initiative of the Year

TMC Ortigas received Medical Tourism Initiative of the Year for its integrated approach to serving international patients, particularly from Guam, Palau, and the Marshall Islands. At the heart of the model is a recognition that patients traveling for care need more than clinical expertise; they need continuity, familiarity, and a system that follows them home.

To support this, TMC built a digital bridge: HMO partners and physicians in Guam were granted direct access to its Electronic Medical Records system, allowing care plans to be co-developed across borders. Guam-based doctors were also accredited to practice within TMC’s Philippine facilities, so patients could have their own physicians present for complex cases. The model delivered results, with international patient numbers growing by 24% in 2025 compared to the previous year.

TMC also leads the Discover Your Wellness Campaign, the Department of Tourism’s medical tourism initiative under Love the Philippines, further strengthening the country’s position as a destination for quality care.

Community Initiative of the Year

TMC Iloilo was recognized for Community Initiative of the Year for its ATIPAN Community Adoption Program, a multi-sector collaboration that improves health access and creates sustainable livelihood opportunities for the Ati indigenous community in Iloilo.

Developed with the University of San Agustin, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the Department of Health, the program combines healthcare services, skills training, and employment pathways to create long-term impact.

What began as medical missions and community health programs evolved into capacity-building efforts, with selected participants completing a TESDA-accredited healthcare training course. In 2024, the first batch joined The Medical City Iloilo as nursing assistants and have since transitioned into regular roles.

The initiative reflects how healthcare can extend beyond clinical care, supporting both community development and inclusion within the workforce.

Building a Healthcare System for the Future

Across all four awards, a single thread runs through: the belief that world-class healthcare should not be confined to a single city, a single hospital, or a single demographic. For The Medical City, excellence is not a destination. It is a standard applied consistently, across over 70 clinics, across five hospitals, and across the borders.
