The Medical City Department of Psychiatry Commemorates Dr. Baltazar V. Reyes at 8th Biennial Memorial Lecture

The Medical City’s Department of Psychiatry honored the legacy of Dr. Baltazar V. Reyes at its 8th Biennial Memorial Lecture, continuing a tradition of advancing mental health awareness and meaningful discourse in the Philippines.

On August 5, 2025, The Medical City’s Department of Psychiatry hosted the 8th biennial installment of a distinguished lecture series that pays tribute to the enduring legacy Dr. Baltazar V. Reyes, one of the most influential figures in Filipino psychiatry.

Since 2011, the Baltazar V. Reyes Memorial Lecture series has served as a platform where highly-esteemed psychiatrists come together to share insights and have meaningful discussions that advance mental health awareness in the Philippines.

This year, the department was honored to have Dr. Rene M. Samaniego as the keynote speaker. Dr. Samaniego is the Secretary of the Specialty Board of Philippine Psychiatry, a council member of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Association, and a former president of the Philippine Psychiatric Association and the Carl Jung Circle Center.

Dr. Samaniego’s lecture, entitled “The Soul of Suicide: A Jungian Psychospiritual Paradigm,” provided profound insights into a topic of critical importance while upholding the lecture series’ commitment to intellectual and compassionate discourse. The event was held at the Augusto Barcelon Auditorium from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
