The Medical City hosts its first Grand Doctors’ Night at the Shangri-La at The Fort, Manila.
October 23, 2025 – Manila, Philippines — In a landmark gathering held at Shangri-La The Fort, The Medical City (TMC) brought together physicians from across its five hospitals and 74 clinics in a historic celebration. Titled “Symphony of Care,” this was the institution’s first-ever network-wide Grand Doctors’ Night, honoring the dedication, compassion, and excellence that continue to define the TMC physician community.
The event capped off a breakthrough year for TMC, marked by significant achievements in both clinical innovation and operational excellence. Among the most notable were the expansion of the liver transplant program, a series of successful robotic procedures including the country’s first fully robotic Whipple procedure, the first fully robotic donor hepatectomy, and advances in neurosurgery, including an eyebrow craniotomy and a custom 3D-printed skull implant. On the systems side, TMC significantly reduced emergency room waiting times across its hospitals to under four hours and maintained consistently high survival rates in its intensive care units. These are part of a much larger set of advancements made by The Medical City this year, spanning clinical, surgical, and systems-level improvements.

Dr. Stuart Bennett, President and Group CEO of The Medical City, opened the evening with a message of gratitude and pride. He emphasized the strength of the physician community in driving progress across the enterprise, saying, “This year has shown what’s possible when great doctors, great systems, and a culture of innovation come together. Our doctors lead with both expertise and empathy, and I believe without a doubt that The Medical City has the best doctors in the Philippines.”

The evening was made even more special by the presence of The Medical City’s Board of Directors, including Chairman Jose Xavier “Eckie” Gonzales and Brian Hong. In his remarks, Hong expressed his gratitude to the doctors and acknowledged their commitment to the institution’s mission.
At the conclusion of his speech, he delivered one of the night’s most memorable moments, a surprise announcement that TMC would be raffling off not one, but two cars in recognition of its physician community. The first winner, Dr. Alma Calavera, a hematologist specializing in bone marrow transplantation, was awarded a BMW 3 Series. Moments later, a second vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz C-Class, was awarded to Dr. Edna C. Banta, a gynecologic oncologist.

The evening featured a performance by Asia’s Nightingale, Lani Misalucha, and a set by the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra. It was a warm and elegant tribute to the doctors who have made a lasting impact on the lives of patients across the country.

While Symphony of Care was a night of celebration, it also marked a renewed promise: to engage, recognize, and empower TMC’s doctors in more unified and meaningful ways. As the organization continues to raise the bar in patient care, innovation, and collaboration, its doctors remain at the heart of everything it does.
